Letter to our Parents, athletes, fans and volunteers

Parents, athletes, fans and volunteers

We need to inform you of some changes for the upcoming weekend and ask for your assistance in helping us improve the experience at RRPW games.

Any team playing home this weekend will be playing at Rio Rancho High School, due to an increase in field cost at Rio Rancho Public Schools we will have to charge an admissions fee for games being held at RRHS facilities; adults will be $5, students $2, 5 and under free and ALL volunteers are also free.  We do have a surplus of volunteer positions needed for this weekend so if you are interested in receiving free admission and have already submitted a background check, please reach out to your team mom about volunteering.

We are asking for your support in providing positive role-modeling for our student athletes. The involvement of our students in athletics and activities contributes to the development of their values system. Respect is a lifetime value that is taught through interscholastic activities and are principles of good sportsmanship and character. With these principles, the spirit of competition thrives, fueled by honest rivalry, courteous relations and grateful acceptance of the results.

The following are the expectations of all spectators, players and volunteers:

  • Make your cheers supportive and not derogatory towards specific players, being critical and negative heightens emotions and creates a hostile environment for our athletes and volunteers.
  • Be a positive role model through your own actions.
  • Remain calm and composed before, during, and after games. If you have an issue with a coach or board member, please wait the 24-hour rule before talking to them.
  • Realize there is enough pressure on athletes to perform as it is, and they don’t need added pressure or negativity from spectators.
  • Restrain from using any derogatory language while at any Pop Warner event
  • Know and respect the rules of the game
  • Be humble not boastful in victory, gracious not bitter in defeat.

We have made a commitment to promote good sportsmanship in our student-athletes, coaches and spectators at all athletic events and especially those events that will be held at any school facility. Using the Rio Rancho Public Schools facility is a privilege, and they will ban us from having that privilege if we do not start behaving accordingly. This letter holds as official warning to all players, coaches, fans and volunteers that we will no longer tolerate degrading remarks, intimidating actions directed at officials, competitors, and other fans and will be grounds for removal from the event site and banned from Pop Warner for a minimum period of 12 months.

P8, S2: Any adult who commits one or more of the above stated offenses a second time, will be banned from all Pop Warner events for a minimum period of one year from the date of the second offense, and their children may also be removed from the program(s) for that time period.

Thank you for your promotion of good sportsmanship as we build character of our students within the context of interscholastic athletics. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out at [email protected].  We look forward to a great weekend of games.
